Design & Build
Updata’s method for designing carrier-class networks enables the greatest possible service flexibility with optimum control and management. This means we can design from scratch to meet your requirements, but more commonly we do so to complement and integrate seamlessly with your existing network infrastructure. In any case, we will gear the following network components toward your unique objectives:
- Access Areas: As the original UK pioneer in Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) for local government, Updata capitalises on its understanding of this approach to provide customers with highly innovative, scalable and cost-effective managed networks.
- Backhaul: Updata uses high capacity 21CN fibre for backhaul as well as its own end-to-end dark fibre. Wireless backhaul can also be deployed to complement traditional wireline technologies by plugging gaps in the wired topology, offering additional resiliency in the form of back-up capacity in network backbones, and as a substitute when wireline costs are prohibitive.
- Core Switching Infrastructure: An advanced understanding and application of MPLS technology provides Updata with the critical capability to virtualise networks for Public Sector Network (PSN) segmentation, and support real-time/streamed IP applications with maximum availability and resilience.
- Access Circuits: Updata typically leverages LLU in its network design, and so favours copper in the last mile either as ADSL or SDSL with speeds of up to 24Mbps symmetrically. Fibre and wireless connections can also be used to suit the challenging requirements of public sector geographies which invariably range from the rural to the ultra-urban.
The 24/7 support organisation underpinning Updata’s managed network capability is delivered via a UK-based Network Operations Centre (NOC) based on an industry-standard platform and permanently staffed by qualified engineers.
The NOC uses sophisticated SNMP technology, enabling our engineers to proactively monitor individual lines in terms of speed, signal strength, transmission rates and other important measures. This ensures any problems can be detected and remediated well before they threaten service quality.
Customers can also access and interrogate the network management interface securely via a dedicated web portal. The portal’s self-service desk can be used to generate reports and log/track issues and service requests.
Updata develops service level agreements (SLAs) with its customers to reflect the precise support, intervention and minimum quality requirements of each network.
Updata proactively manages and reports on the performance of SLAs to improve customer satisfaction and promote transparency. Service credits are provided in the unlikely event that an SLA is in breach.
Our commitment to adding value means that our SLAs are used as the foundations for building closer relationships.
